1-phenyl -1-cyanocyclopentane is heated to 160-180 ℃ in sodium hydroxide solution, diluted with water after 5 hours of reaction, boiled and decolorized with activated carbon, filtered, filtered with concentrated hydrochloric acid to pH = 3, filtered, washed with hot water to neutral, dried to obtain 1-phenyl cyclopentanaric acid.
